Anthony Pettis Kicks Can off of Sergio Pettis’ Head

Ok, that was funny but I feel bad for Sergio. Below is a post where he does it for real.

AJ Agazarm Blasts Metamoris for Non-Payment

I was wondering when the next Metamoris event would be taking place and found out that former Metamoris competitor AJ Agazarm posted a rant about not being paid to their official Instagram page. If this is true this is a huge black eye for Metamoris that as of this time Ralek Gracie hasn’t directly responded to so he will need to do a lot of damage control. I love the idea of Metamoris but it may have been hurt by it growing too fast too soon and not having the infrastructure to grow accordingly. Let’s hope they figure things out quickly so we can have great grappling matches like the one with Dean Lister and Josh Barnett.

Update 1/16/16: Metamoris has removed the post and Ralek Gracie has addressed this issue on his Instagram page (see bottom of entry).

From the Metamoris Instagram website:

Dear Ralek,
For quite sometime you have been using my image, my likeness, and the likenesses of others to promote your business and the brand of Metamoris. You claim to represent the values that Jiu Jitsu stands for, but you have been hiding behind empty promises.
It has been over 6 months since my bout against Karo Parisyan, and I still haven’t been paid. It’s not about the money (it wasn’t a lot) but instead it is about the principle. We put everything on the line to make it as exciting and entertaining as possible for the fans. I took the match on short notice to help save your show, as you would otherwise have been left without a main event. To this date my match is still behind your paywall and I have not yet seen a single dollar.
Since this match I have competed in organizations such as Polaris and Berkut, who paid my travel expenses, did an incredible job of promoting me as an athlete, but most importantly upheld the moral code of the artist and treated me and the community with respect by paying me on time and not compromising the cards of the viewers.
I think it is massively unjust that your brand equity continues to ascend by using the image of the athletes that you promised to pay (but do not) while organizations such as Polaris are struggling with brand recognition and event success.
The last Polaris card was one of the best the community has ever seen and not just for the quality of the match ups. They paid all their athletes (plus expenses) and did not make a profit. This is elevating the sport and allowing us athletes to make a living.
It’s been 6 months – you haven’t paid me, you promised me an additional bout on Metamoris that I have not seen, yet you still benefit from using our fight to promote your show.
Make this right. Stop double charging your customers and pay your athletes. The Instagram takeover will continue until you’ve done right.
On April 2nd I will face Ben Askren in a sub-only match in the UK for @polaris_professional. I am looking forward to this match for a number of reasons, but mainly because I am getting the opportunity to showcase my skills against a very tough opponent in a clash of styles. -@thefloridaboy”

I can’t assure you that a certain individual had better intentions with an Instagram heist than pumping up his own ego for not being invited to compete at Metamoris Pro or other reasons not worth mentioning. With that said, I’m all about improvement and this is a good opportunity to shed light for the people who really care about our future and the future of submission grappling. First, we started Metamoris to elevate the sport of Jiu Jitsu and its athletes. People think we are rolling in the dough because we have the best quality production and that we have been financially backed since M5. Truth is we lost our backer after M2. Metamoris 3 was a huge risk and the largest athlete payout yet. We broke even on M3, a huge victory. Metamoris 5 and 6 did not bring in the expected live streams, setting us back in a big way. As a means of recovering we created Metamoris All Access, Metamoris Challenger and Metamoris Underground. Although they are amazing ideas we spread ourselves thin. I’d like to apologize to everyone incorrectly billed through our site, we were not ready to launch when we did and we have since identified all the issues and brought on qualified people to develop the site. Still, you believed in us, trusted us and we let you down and that is something no amount of money can replace. To the athletes athletes, most of whom are supportive and patient with our mission and know that we have gone big in building their individual brands as well as pushing to pay them above industry standards, it hurts me to delay but you WILL be paid. This patience is not owed to us, though we are grateful for it. Lastly, to the fans of Metamoris I’m personally sorry for the loss in momentum. I made mistakes trying to honor what we all love and I fell short on many levels… We have now formed an executive team to manage our processes on a level that reflects our mission and capacity and are in talks with several qualified investors. In essence we are regrouping, applying the lessons of our mistakes and gearing up for the strongest year in grappling history. That said, it won’t serve us to dwell on past mistakes. Onward and upward. -Ralek- P.S. fun is doing the impossible.

Video: Is This The Real Jon Jones?

Former light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones has been through a lot in the last year but after having his title stripped from him, testing positive for cocaine and going through a court trial for a hit and run accident he’s finally coming clean. This is by far the best interview I’ve seen with Jones and it feels like he’s finally just being himself.

Following her brutal knock out loss to Holly Holm, MMA fans have been waiting for former champ, Ronda Rousey’s first interview and it was just posted at ESPN.

Here are some highlights from the article:

  • “I need to come back. I need to beat this chick. Who knows if I’m going to pop my teeth out or break my jaw or rip my lip open. I have to fucking do it.”
  • “I got hit in that first round. … I cut my lip open and knocked a couple of my teeth loose. I was out on my feet from the very beginning.”

UFC Champ Holly Holm Congratulates Comedian Amy Schumer

I guess I wasn’t the only one who thought that UFC Champ Holly Holm looked a little like comedian Amy Schumer.

The response from Holly Holm to Amy’s Tweet was awesome.

Fedor Training Video

A lot of Fedor fans are looking at his upcoming New Year’s Eve fight with mixed emotions. If he came back, we were hoping it would be in the UFC in order to fight some of the best in the world. Even in Bellator there would be some fun matches for him but the fact that his opponent has changed and there have been odd rumors just makes it look like a money grab, not that I blame him.

Ellen Tweets Awesome Ronda Rousey Fight Preview Video

I’m not in the habit of reposting anything from Ellen but this is one of the best fight preview videos I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen every UFC since UFC 2! The casting of young Ronda is perfect!

Edit: Here’s the full video with Holly Holm’s backstory added.

Justin Wren – Fighting for the Freedom of the Pygmies

I’ve been following former UFC fighter, Justin Wren’s journey for quite a while and I’m just blown away with how he turned his life around by helping the Pygmies of the Congo. Justin has spent years of his life living with them and learning their ways. In short, loving them. When you hear him talk about “his family”, he’s serious. Help this amazing man in his fight to free the pygmy slaves and put them on their own land. He’s already done so much and he’s dedicating his life to help and right now he’s at $12,909 toward his goal of $60,000.
