I wonder why he didn't get more votes. For one I don't think his personality came through very well. He never said anything interesting, he just said it all with his performances and in this competition people want to see personality and Kris had a lot. In fact, I hated Kris at first but he seemed like such a nice kid he won me over in the end.
Could it have been questions about Adam's sexuality and those pictures? I never mentioned them before because I don't think that it was anyone's business and I don't think they should affect him but maybe they did? Fortunately, Adam should easily be able to transition into doing Broadway musicals. He has the presence and voice to excel more than other Idol contestants who have preceded him.
I don't know, even though I wanted Kris to win, something just doesn't feel right about this. Either way, I'm very impressed by Adam's behavior. He was gracious and didn't make any faces, cry or look bummed. In later interviews he was in good spirits but everyone knows that he really deserved this one. I wish him the best of luck but he hardly needs luck when he's so talented.

Well here we are at the last performance show of the season and it's a foregone conclusion that Adam Lambert will easily walk away with the title but it ain't over yet. Tonight each contestant will sing 3 songs.

Adam Lambert opens up with the Michael Andrews version of Tears For Fears' "Mad World". Eh, it was kind of like the first time he did it. OK but nothing new here.
Kris Allen does Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" and plays it on piano. I give him a lot of credit for changing it and making it one of his own. Like Simon, I give this round to Kris. Paula went crazy with the spray tan tonight!
Adam's next song is the classic "A Change is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke. Now this is one of my all time favorite songs and Adam should be able to really do a great job on this one but I was disappointed. I thought he would do better but he kind of did it predictable just like he does most songs. I don't know if he really did anything new or different with it. I thought he would've taken advantage of the first line to do something amazing but despite the judges raving over this one, it left me flat.
Kris does another one of my all time favorites with "What's Going On" originally performed by Marvin Gaye. Wow, again Kris is doing an acoustic version and really trying something different. I give this kid a lot of credit for trying something different. He might not be able to outsing Adam but he's really performing like an artist here. Even though many will no doubt disagree, I give this round to Kris too even though he could've doing something interesting with the bridge section.
Now for the original song co-written by Kara DioGuardi and Adam is up first. These are always interesting because no one has heard these before so in the past they've been pretty bad. Wow, this is the first time I think I've seen Adam struggling with a song. He usually has great pitch but he's having some trouble here. Randy is honest and agrees, it's Kara's song so she can't comment on the performance, Paula gives the same comment as always and Simon says that Adam's a star.
Next up is Kris. Now here's where it gets tough. If they do the same song there's now a direct comparison so is there anything Kris can do to make himself sound as good as Adam who is a technically better singer? Kris is clearly trying hard. He's moving and feeling the song but when he's out of breath on the long passages you can tell because the words drop off and his pitch suffers. This is clearly a hard song to sing live. When the song is over you can tell that Kris isn't confident. The judges are kind as if they already know the results. Don't we all?
Wait, is Carrie Underwood performing live? This it the first time in a long time that I've seen her do a weak performance. I guess if it ain't country, it's not going to be good. Try looking up Motley Crue's original version of the song.
Final thoughts: OK, we're all assuming that Adam will win because he's clearly the best male technical singer we've seen on the show. But other than shoehorning in a high note into every song there wasn't a whole lot of artistry and originality. Kris on the other had shaped many of the songs to suit his personality and showed himself to be an artist. Now the big questions are is this a singing competition or an artist competition and also, did you actually like the stuff that Kris did? Clearly there's no one who's going to change their minds on the basis of tonight's performances because I don't think either guy came out and took any chances. So in less than 24 hours we should have a new American Idol. Good luck Kris, be the spoiler, pull the upset!

Since American Idol chose not to do an Idol Gives Back night, there's some slight mention and a kid comes out and sings.
Danny Gokey is the first to be featured. Shots of him going home and seeing his friend were interesting but kind of dull. The best part is how much he seems to really appreciate everyone who came out to see him. Danny is clearly a nice guy and as much as I hope he wins...
Kris Allen on his way home got free cheese dip for life from his favorite restaurant in Arkansas. There's a touching moment showing him and his father embracing and his father is rightfully proud of his boy. Kris is also a nice guy but I don't know if he has a big enough personality to make it as a recording star.
Jordin Sparks comes out and sings a song that reminds me of Beyonce.
Adam Lambert comes on stage and gets the best crowd reaction. Not surprising to anyone, there's a scene where he does the makeup of the local weathergirl. He seems like a nice kid but really hasn't shown a lot of personality. I don't think I've heard him say 2 sentences in a row. Maybe he played it right by not talking too much. I know I haven't been too kind to Adam but I think he'll make a good American Idol.
Katy Perry comes out dressed like Elvis sporting a cape with Adam Lambert's name on it. Anyone else think she looks like Zooey Deschanel?
And the results: Kris is the first to be announced and Simon looks surprised. Of course Adam is announced as the second finalist. Sorry Danny, I hope you're a success in the Christian market.

Danny Gokey: Terrence Trent D'arby's Dance Little Sister. Paula chose this one for him and it was alright. Not a lot of dynamics but he sounded good. The sax player sucked because he didn't play along with Danny's call and response bit. The judges response was lukewarm and I wonder if it might send him home.
Kris Allen: One Republic's Apologize. Randy and Kara picked this one for him and it's kind of a ballad interpretation with no great drum groove like the original. I didn't think he should play the piano since his time is a bit off. The judges didn't like this one either.
Adam Lambert performs U2's One. Simon claims that U2 gave their approval for him to sing this. The backup singers start way out of tune which does him no favors but he still does his over the top wailing. I hated it but I'm sure most of America loved it. His thin, reedy high notes sounded extra shrill and were completely unnecessary on this song but you can't stop him from oversinging. There's no emotion or feel, just high notes. As much as I hated this the judges loved it. Let's just make him the winner already.
Danny Gokey's second song is Joe Cocker's You Are So Beautiful. Not the greatest pick but he does a good job. I like Danny but I'm really doubting him having any chance against Adam to win.
Kris Allen's second song is Kanye West's Heartless? Seriously? This is the only time in American Idol history where someone plays the guitar and it's not just a prop. I hate the song but he really did a great job. Kris looked and sounded confident and if he's going home, he's going home on a high note. Look out Danny, it's going to be a close race for second place!
Adam Lambert finishes the show with Aerosmith's Cryin'. Gee, will he oversing this one? Yup. I know all of you out there are really impressed with this guy but he's just not a convincing rock singer. I've spent my life around great rock singers and just because someone can hit notes doesn't make them great. Clearly it doesn't matter what I say because he's going to cruise for an easy win.

It's not awful but clearly there's not a real rocker in the bunch. Trying to shoehorn in an R&B vocal fill into this song sounds ridiculous but Adam and Allison look like they're having fun while Kris and Danny seem clearly out of place.
They talk about Danny's bad note and he has a great sense of humor about it. I gotta tell you that this is the right attitude because I don't know many people who could make a joke about it, especially not me. Did Allison swear because the sound dropped out.
Paula Abdul performs next. Will she really sing or lip-sync? There has never been such an obvious lip-sync performance since The Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears on the 2003 MTV VMA awards. On a positive note, she looks and moves great for 46.
Next up is No Doubt rocking their hit "Just A Girl". The look and sound great but the vocals are mixed too hot and the band isn't loud enough. Gwen Stefani is a little out of breath but still does a few push ups as a callback to their video. She proves that you can be active and still sing for real.
They're showing how many people turned out for the past top 3 contestants in their hometown. I wonder how many people Bo Bice or Taylor Hicks could get to show up now?
There's a minor surprise as Kris Allen is the first to go to safety. So it should be either Allison or Danny.
Daughtry plays their new song "No Surprise" and he sounds really good. After he gets presented with a platinum record with 5-million sales. This guy has really proven himself over the last year.
Adam is safe next and the bottom two are Allison and Danny and Danny is safe. For the first time in American Idol history we have an all male top 3. As she sings her way out she cries a little. Good luck Allison, I hope you can have some sort of career after this is over.

I'm gonna burn my Appetite For Destruction CD. Not really.
Adam Lambert - Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love: Fucking awful. I usually try not to swear but I'm a huge Zep fan and I thought this was so hokey and cheesy. Not rock but cabaret. I know everyone will disagree with me but no one who owns the Led Zep Complete box set will enjoy this performance.
Allison Iraheta - Janis Joplin's Cry Baby: Wow. How predictable and awful. Looking like a less attractive Joplin clone, Allison butchers this one up. Her hair looks 2% better but it still looks like she has a huge wig on. The judges liked it a little better than I did meaning she could be in the bottom this week. Allison argues with Simon a bit and even though it's justified, this never is a good move.
Kris Allen and Danny Gokey do a duet of Renegade by Styx and it's a little shaky. They both look nervous and it doesn't feel authentic. I like these two guys the best but this isn't good. Danny blows the last line of the song. Too bad. This was the first duet on AI and it was an awesome idea but unfortunately it didn't come off well.
Kris Allen does the Beatles' Come Together: Slash lets him play his Gibson Les Paul in practice and Kris decides to play guitar during his performance. He sounds soooo much better on this one than the last song. The judges didn't like this one as much as I did.
Danny Gokey is going to attempt Aerosmith's Dream On: This could be awesome or a trainwreck but probably one or the other. Wow, he really doesn't look very "rock", more like disco with the purple shirt and more necklaces than Paula. The performance is pretty mediocre, he blows the end note and he knows it. Too bad because he's my favorite.
Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert do Foghat's Slow Ride:Adam sounds better on this one and Allison looks more comfortable. They actually look like they're having fun as opposed to Kris and Danny's duet. My two least favorite contestants but they did a really good job on this one.
Bottom Line: Well this was an awful night for my two favorites and a good night for the ones I don't like. This will be awesome because anything can happen with the voting tomorrow night. Did you know that Adam has been selling the most songs on iTunes? This won't necessarily translate into sales of his CD but I'm sure the individual song sales will affect who the American Idol producers select to win. What, you didn't think that your votes actually determines the winner now do you? Maybe in the beginning but this all about creating an artist who sells well and if you read the fine print at the end of the show, the executives have ultimate power to choose the winner and change the vote.

We can look forward to two kids going home since the judges used their "save" last week on Matt Giraud. In a surprise move, Adam is in the bottom 3 but don't worry, the show would never let him go this early. Natalie Cole comes out and sings and clearly she's seen better days. If only she could sing as good as she's looking. Taylor Hicks is up next to embarrass himself and the people who voted for him. Look, he's pretending to play guitar. "Whoooo, Soul Patrol!"
In a surprise move, Kris is safe and Adam and Matt are in the bottom two. Next up, Jamie Foxx comes on to use Auto-Tune on a singing show. He doesn't need it but he still sounds better than all the other singers using it now.
So in what comes as a surprise to no one, Matt is going home. He knows he was on longer than he deserved. Overall, this was a show worth skipping completely.

Well tonight's episode starts off being "Rat Pack" week? Seriously? What next, big band and delta blues week? And who does American Idol think of as the best person to represent the Rat Pack but Jamie Fox. Yeah. Jamie is talented but he looks like the kind of guy who doesn't want to be on this show.

Kris Allen - The Way You Look Tonight: Jamie likes Kris because he's not trying to oversing the song. I like Kris a lot but I don't think I'd really consider buying his CD until he does something original.
Allison Iraheta - Someone To Watch Over Me: Meh. Alright but nothing different or original. Randy says she looks like Brittany Murphy. Is that a compliment?
Matt Giraud - My Funny Valentine: Matt should do well with this standard but for some reason it just never feels right. I thought this would be a slamdunk week for Matt but he didn't look comfortable and he didn't take command of the song.
Danny Gokey - Come Rain or Come Shine: I think Danny should hit this one out of the park and he does. He's the only one who sings with a believable passion. Ladies and Gentleman, the winner of American Idol is... Danny Gokey
Adam Lambert - Feelin' Good: Think he's going to oversing this one. Yup. The Rat Pack would not approve of this guy but it won't stop America from voting for him in droves. Adam does the predictable showtune version. Nothing cool about this version, pure corny but people will eat it up.
Final Thoughts: Danny and Adam come out so far ahead of everyone else that they might as well just send Matt, Allison and probably even Kris home and have the final vote. My vote as of today goes to Danny. Unless he really screws up he should be the winner with a small possibility of Adam beating him.

They do a bad lip sync to match some horrible dancing but fortunately this isn't a dance competition.
Lil Rounds is the first to be cut. She was good but just never developed with any originality. While she's an awesome imitator it was hard to picture her as a real solo artist. Hopefully a good producer out there might have a vision for her future and want to work with her.
Frieda Payne comes out and does a pretty stiff version of her hit "Band of Gold". Thelma Houston is next followed by KC and the Sunshine Band. I gotta say that even though these disco legends sounded fine they also looked very old. I hope this appearance sells well for them because I really don't want to see them doing these hits live again.
So this week it's Allison Iraheta and Anoop Desai in the bottom but before we get results we have to put up with an out of tune David Archuleta proving us right for not making him last year's American Idol.
Well Allison gets saved by the audience (or Idol producers) for another week. I thought Anoop had been getting better every single week and he deserved another week but I'm not in charge of the votes. As Anoop sings his final song, Paula can be heard yelling for him and clapping off beat. I'm surprised that I'll miss him.

I can't believe that the judges wasted their save on Matt Giraud. There's no way that he can win. No way. Absolutely no way. So next week two contestants will go home. Who? Most likely Matt, Lil and Anoop will be in the bottom. There's a chance that Lil could really do great next week since it's disco week but we'll have to wait and see.

Allison Iraheta - Aerosmith's Don't Want To Miss A Thing: Wow, am I the only one who thought she sucked? She started too low, she was out of tune and her stage presence was just awful. It looks like she's wearing a wig, a costume and still isn't showing any personality. My grade - D.
Anoop Desai - Bryan Adams' Everything I Do, I Do For You: Anoop did possibly one of his best and most convincing performances to date. I don't think he has a chance to win but he did a good job tonight. My grade - B.
Adam Lambert - Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild: Interesting how in the movie Easy Rider, the guys were wearing leather because they're motorcycle riders. Adam wears leather in a different way... Anyway, the original is a very masculine song and this was... well, it just wasn't. It was what I would expect to see in an, off, off, off Broadway show. Corny and awful. He has so much potential but he uses the high note just as much as a tool as Blake Lewis did the beatbox. You just wait for him to shoehorn it into every song. Corny. Simon nailed the criticism by saying that it was right out of Rocky Horror. Horror indeed. My grade is a low D because he could do so much better.
Matt Giraud - Bryan Adams' Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman: Matt does a nice job on piano but he makes some really odd faces when he sings. Wow, a lot of bad notes. He probably shouldn't have played the piano, just got out there and sang. Grade C-
Danny Gokey - Lionel Richie's Endless Love: Can Danny get emotional for this song? A slight stumble early but he recovers nicely. He's not oversinging this song and he's doing a nice job although no one who wears this kind of jacket should roll up the sleeves. A slight look to the heavens as I'm sure he dedicates this one to his late wife. Not the greatest singing performance but his personality and look really makes him the frontrunner in my eyes. Grade - B+
Kris Allen - Some song from "Once": I used to hate this guy but he's totally winning me over. This is a nice and vulnerable performance and he went to a place where no other singer in the competition has gone. Very nice. Randy disagrees with me and the show feels pushed because of time limits. Grade - B
Lil Rounds - The Rose: I think this is her last chance to stay in the competition and she starts a little rough. I think she needed to do the intro a little softer. When the gospel change comes in, it doesn't come in as strong as I had hoped and her pitch is still off. I really like her but this could be the end. I really thought she'd do awesome because they usually put the strongest performer in the last spot. Simon hates it and I just wish that we just had heard her do something current sounding. The fact that she's crying and argues at the end pretty much seals her fate as going home. Grade - C-
Bottom Line: I don't think any of these kids have much of a chance at a real career. Danny will win, Adam will go to Broadway and the rest will fade to obscurity searching for the "big hit".

Danny Gokey: Mickey Gilley's version of Stand By Me - Wow, when was the last time you heard the name, Mickey Gilley? Seriously, if you're not from the Midwest or the South you might not have even heard of him. If you care, watch Urban Cowboy. Back to the show, Danny did a decent version. It's hard to criticize a guy who's this likeable but this performance wasn't his best. The judges weren't crazy about his performance but I thought he did fine. We're still waiting for a really great moment in this season and it hasn't happened yet but if it does, I'm betting on Danny.
Kris Allen: Don Henley's All She Wants To Do Is Dance - Kris is growing on me. This is a much different version than the original and it's ok. I think they could've done a heavier version but Kris is a pop singer and the horns and funk beat seem to work for him. I definitely liked this version better than the judges.
Lil Rounds: Tina Turner's What's Love Got To Do With It - It sounds like she's nervous and out of breath. Lil has a good voice but she doesn't have the interesting texture that Tina has so the song just doesn't seem to work well. Disappointing.
Anoop Desai: Cyndi Lauper's True Colors - Boring and karaoke but the judges liked it, contradicting everything they said before.
Scott McIntyre: Survivor's The Search Is Over - Jimi Jamison has a great voice and Scott just couldn't do this love ballad justice. A weak performance that sounded shaky at best. It could be time for him to go. At the end Scott claims that he wanted to be versatile before going home so it sounds like he knows he's next and he may have thrown in the towel.
Allison Iraheta: Bonnie Raitt's I Can't Make You Love Me - I really don't like Allison but I thought this song choice really made sense. She started out good but she tended to shout the chorus instead of letting us hear the tone and texture in her voice. This could've been a great performance but... In the end the judges like her voice but encourage her to show more of her personality. Of course this could really backfire.
Matt Giraud: Stevie Wonder's Part-Time Lover - Meh. Not in tune and pretty karaoke. Nothing spectacular here. The judges liked it but I have a feeling that they'll change their minds after watching the replay.
Adam Lambert: Michael Andrews version of Tears For Fears' Mad World - Another literal version of a song along with a few high notes crowbarred in. Jeez, just because you can sing high doesn't mean you should thrown them in EVERY single time. Reminds me of Sam Harris who would sing a song and throw in a high note in the end just because it's a cheap way to impress people. I didn't think this was his best performance and his voice cracking in the last note will hopefully make him reconsider his next song.
Bottom Line: Most of the contestants still aren't getting the idea of doing something original. The majority are doing karaoke versions but when the originals are so much better, why would anyone care? What were the most memorable performances several years ago? While we forget Taylor Hicks, Ruben Studdard and even Carrie Underwood's performances most of us still can remember Blake Lewis' beatbox vs drum song. Anyway, it looks like they're setting Adam up for an easy win.
Look for Lil, Anoop and Scott to be in the bottom three tomorrow.

Sure she knew she was going home but her behavior was bizarre and just plain embarrassing. The eye bugging, disrespect to the judges, the flapping arms going "caw, caw" and in the end crying were the lowest moments ever on American Idol.
From the first moment I saw Megan I was a fan. Her voice and look were both unusual and original. Every time she stumbled I still believed in her but unfortunately, she never got better. She didn't take criticism well and in the end she just crashed and burned in the worst way possible. In what might be the dumbest moment is that she said she didn't care what Simon thought before the final song. This just sent the message to all the judges that she had given up and didn't deserve to be saved with their final vote. Even the fans turned on her because very few people made any noise when it was announced she was the lowest scoring contestant. What she needed to do was act and look classy if she thought she was going home. Remember that she could've still marketed herself to producers after the show's end but this pretty much shows that she's a self-destructive ass. I doubt any producer would go near her after tonight's show. Her crap attitude just made all the judges turn on her and none of the judges had anything good to say or any encouraging words after her actions. Her choice to get right up in their faces and deliver her last song passive-aggressive really just put the nail in the coffin of any chance of anyone wanting to work with her.
I guess I'm more disappointed because I really, really liked her in the beginning but as time went on, I just couldn't defend her lousy performances and bad attitude. I guess she wanted to go out with a bang but instead she just looked like a douche. Good bye, good luck and good riddance!

Yes, she actually flapped her arms and ran across the stage yelling "caw, caw".

Seriously? He looks like he'd be more at home in the IT department.
Megan Joy Corkrey: Bob Marley's Turn the Lights Down Low? - If you've been reading my website you'll know that I was the biggest fan of Megan but at this point she's just not improving and she deserves to go home. Tonight she didn't sound good, she looked like a homeless hippie and she hasn't been taking the criticism well. She's just too cocky now and needs to go. Sorry.
Danny Gokey: Rascal Flatts' What Hurts the Most - Not his best performance ever but he has such great charisma that he still does well.
Allison Iraheta: No Doubt's Don't Speak - I wish she wouldn't... but this is her first truly awful performance. Bad guitar playing, her pitch was off and she looked bad. She might be 16 but she looks and sounds like a 30 year old waitress.
Scott MacIntyre: Billy Joel's I Love You Just The Way You Are - Wow, what a surprise. It was an average performance but it was one of his better ones. The audience reaction didn't seem that enthusiastic. I'm not a fan so I thought this was just average.
Matt Giraud: Some song by the Fray - Rough start but he gets better as the song builds. It almost looks like he gets some preferential treatment being allowed to perform in the middle of the audience. Too bad this song doesn't have the energy to capitalize on his location. Coming before the judges he doesn't look confident at all. Paula is tough on him and none of the judges like his performance.
Lil Rounds: Celine Dion's I Surrender - I really have grown to like Lil and she has a ton of potential but it looks like she lost all of her confidence. It was a weak performance and I didn't like her makeover. They show her kids and usually I would think that would be a bad move but her kids seem sweet and it may help her to get a few more votes.
Adam Lambert: Wild Cherry's Play That Funky Music - An old hacky disco song with some new hacky antics from Adam. Well, what was supposed to be a current version sounded so friggin' corny. Adam looked very pleased with himself on this one but I'm getting really tired of his nasal high notes. One thing to look for, notice how he sticks his tongue out when he does high notes. This actually helps him to sing them and comes from an old vocal exercise. Looks dorky, works great. I hated it.
Kris Allen: Bill Withers' Ain't No Sunshine - I'm no fan of Kris but this seemed like the only sincere performance of the night. He made it his own which is more than anyone else did tonight. I think I'm now rooting for him to be in the top 3.
Bottom Line: I think Kris' performance was my favorite of the night. The bottom 3 will most likely be Matt, Megan and Allison. It could possibly be Lil but I think she can come back and be strong again. Even though Adam put on an exciting performance, I think anyone just listening will be able to hear that it wasn't really that good. As far as originality, Kris and Danny are the only ones who stood out. Unfortunately, I don't think this season we've had one brilliant moment.

Here we go with the top 10 results show. I've heard many rumors that Paula won't be coming back next year but I've also heard that Kara might not be back either. I like Kara but I might be the only one.

The first performance is the cheesy group sing that we're used to. Next up is Ruben Studdard who is sweating more than anyone I've ever seen perform one song.

The bottom three this week are:

Matt Giraud

Michael Sarver

Scott MacIntyre

There was a nice song by Smokey Robinson and Joss Stone but it felt like they were just trying to pad out time for a full hour. Stevie Wonder showed how a real singer does it.

The end of the show was utterly predictable and a little unfair with Michael Sarver trying his best to sing with soul when he's really a country singer. But even though he worked hard it wasn't even close. It's not that he's a country singer because Garth Brooks could rock out some Motown, Sarver was just out of his league in this competition and it was his turn to go home. At least he'll be part of the tour and make some $$$. This and last night were probably the most boring American Idol shows this season and I hope they pick up some energy for next week.
